Dental Implants FAQ

How long is the implant process?

The dental implant process can take anywhere from 6-8 months depending on your case. It is a multistep process with healing time between procedures and the fabrication of a custom implant crown.

What does the process consist of?

Each patient’s case is treatment planned on an individual basis. Some procedures involved in the process include tooth extraction, bone grafting, implant placement, healing time, placing the healing collar, impressions, and delivery of the permanent implant crown. Your oral surgeon will walk you through the implant process specific to your dental needs.

How much are dental implants? Does my dental insurance cover dental implants?

On average, the total cost of an implant from start to finish is about $4000. Every insurance policy is different. Some dental insurance policies may cover portions of certain procedures throughout the implant placement process.

It is the patient’s responsibility to check with their insurance for details about coverage. Our office can file a pre-estimate with your insurance before starting the implant process.

What is the prognosis for implants? How long do they last?

Implants are expected to last a lifetime when treatment goes according to plan with no complications and optimal oral hygiene is maintained by the patient.

How do I clean and take care of my implants?

Just like your natural teeth, implants can be kept clean with good brushing and flossing. One of our favorite tools we recommend to implant patients is a water flosser. Talk with one of our dental hygienists for detailed instructions on how to use the water flosser.
